Tunnel at Erro and Tunnel at Mezkiritz, Navarre

An essential project for Navarre, “We need tunnels to help improve our economy", remarked Félix Jamar, President of the Junta del Valle de Aezkoa.

Azierta has designed the project for the construction of the tunnels of Erro and Mezkiritz, a project within the framework of the Plan Navarra 2012. The execution of these tunnels will improve the road connections between the more western Pyrenean valleys and the capital, thus avoiding the Erro Pass.

Both projects have been included in the Strategic Scheme for the Pyrenees as it is one the main demands in the area and were also included as a priority project in the Plan Navarra 2012.

The project involving the section of the Erro Tunnel intends to avoid traffic through the Erro Pass as the road is winding and with considerable slopes and a length of 11,202 m reaching an altitude of 800 meters.

The project involving the Mezkiritz Tunnel will made unnecessary to cross the Mezkiritz Pass. The current road there is winding with considerable slopes and a length of 6,338 m reaching an altitude of 925 m. The project also includes the construction of a beltway to prevent traffic from going into the town of Espinal.
