Maintenance and strengthening of the cuttings. Line: Huesca - Jaca

“Engineering as a tool to improve safety in railway infrastructures”

The cuttings in the section under study on the conventional railway line between Huesca and Jaca have suffered continuous rockfalls, which has resulted in disruptions to the railway traffic as the line must be shut down while rocks were removed.

The project designed by Azierta entails working closely with railway managers as these works cannot disrupt train traffic.

The Construction Project defines the necessary actions to correct the problems detected in the cutting slopes, improving both the overall and local stability of the same, in order to prevent safety risks in railway infrastructures. The actions taken include the laying of triple twist hexagonal mesh, geogrids, gunting, as well as actions aimed at improving drainage.

Technical characteristics

  • Average length: 400 m.
  • Medium height of the slopes: 18 m.
